What to know about this beach
Two features here pull in opposite directions. The northern aspect keeps the beach out of the main sargassum corridor, since mats move east to west on the trade winds and load the country's east facing shores first. The points closing the cove also filter part of what travels along the coast.
Size works the other way. A small sheltered inlet flushes less than an open shore: once weed gets past the entrance, the gentle water that makes swimming pleasant is not always enough to clear it, and a deposit can sit for several days. A volume that would go unnoticed along a long open beach takes up a good share of this cove, so the daily score tells you more than any regional average.

Is La Playita sheltered from sargassum?
It is better placed than the east facing coasts: it looks north and is closed off by headlands, so fewer arrivals reach it. The flip side is that whatever does get in leaves slowly.
Why does weed linger in this cove?
Because the water is calm. Without real swell, the flushing that pulls sargassum back offshore on an open beach is missing here, so a deposit can hold in a small space for several days.
