What to know about this beach
Like the rest of the Miami Beach oceanfront, North Beach faces due east into the Atlantic, so the easterly flow that drives the sargassum belt west works on it without obstruction. The difference lies onshore. Here a vegetated dune ridge and wooded parkland separate the water from the buildings, leaving a deeper strip of sand between the tide line and the street.
That back beach has a practical effect: dried weed blown up the slope collects at the foot of the dunes instead of covering the access points. Out in the water, longshore transport trends south, so a raft that settles at the north end can be found lower down the coast a day later. The extra width also keeps a band of weed at the waterline well away from the walkways.

Is North Beach better protected than the south of the island?
Not at sea: the orientation is identical and rafts come ashore the same way. The difference is on land, where a wider dune belt absorbs part of the dried weed and keeps the walkways clearer.
