What to know about this beach
The Pain de Sucre cone works as a natural breakwater. Its bulk cuts the easterly flow crossing the archipelago, and the two pockets of shore at its base open to the south, turned away from the faces that receive arrivals first, a full ridge away from the windward shore.
These coves are tight and short, though. When a mat rounds the point or rides in on a southerly swell, it concentrates along a few dozen metres of sand and pebbles, where water circulates slowly between the rocks. Reading the day matters more here than on a straight coastline: two neighbouring beaches in Les Saintes can post very different ratings on the same morning.
