What to know about this beach
Cosmy is a textbook case of an Atlantic beach protected by geography. Between it and the open sea stand the length of the bay and the mass of the Caravelle: rafts pushed by the trade winds have to work around the peninsula and then travel up the bay before they reach this shore. Many never make it, and an episode that marks Tartane can stay modest here.
The flip side is familiar to any enclosed bay. Once weed does clear the entrance, sheltered water holds on to it. With no swell to lift it away, it settles along the shoreline and breaks down where it lies. Cosmy's daily score cannot be inferred from the Caravelle beaches, then; it has to be read on its own.
