What to know about this beach
El Morro occupies the island's north-western corner, the point furthest from the corridor along which sargassum rafts approach the region: they travel east to west and meet the eastern shores first. This stretch therefore sits at the tail end of that route.
Relief then takes over. The Morro massif drops straight into the sea and cuts part of the wind and swell on its sheltered flank, while the rest of the beach, open to the north, takes whatever the sea delivers unfiltered. The landscape is dry and windswept and the beach has almost no facilities: on a shore like this, what washes up stays put until the sea or the wind takes it back.
