What to know about this beach
A north-facing beach set inside a large bay does not behave like the east coast. The trade winds blow from the east and run along this shore rather than into it, while the Samaná peninsula opposite absorbs part of the open-sea swell. Direct exposure to rafts arriving from the Atlantic is reduced by that geometry.
Reduced is not the same as absent. A bay that lets weed in through its opening also keeps it circulating inside for a while, pushed from one shore to the other by the local wind. The seabed stays shallow close in, and several rivers come down from the nearby hills, so after heavy rain the water can turn cloudy for reasons unrelated to sargassum.
