What to know about this beach
Facing south-east on the Caribbean Sea, this beach lies far from the usual entry points for sargassum, which reaches Hispaniola from the east on the trade winds. Anything arriving here has already run the length of the south coast and shows up in fragments, in episodes, at volumes far below what the eastern shoreline handles.
Two local features shape the rest. The pebble bar and the steep foreshore leave little flat ground where a mat can settle and dry out, and south-easterly swell frequently takes back what it dropped. The river adds an outflow at the mouth: it does not shield the whole beach, but it works against build-up right in front of the lagoon.
