Bloody Bay opens to the north-west, tucked behind the headland that separates it from Long Bay. Like the rest of Negril, it sits on the leeward flank of Jamaica: the easterly trade winds that drive sargassum rafts across the Caribbean reach the island from the opposite side.
That north-westerly opening has a practical consequence. The bay stays sensitive to winter swell from the north and to anything a passing current pushes inside. An enclosed bay also flushes more slowly than a straight, well-swept shore, so weed that does get in can linger near the sand for a while. Episodes here are uncommon, which makes them worth checking rather than assuming, and that is exactly what the daily rating is for.
