Sargassum at Dennery Beach (La Pointe): today's conditions

Today, October 30

Light

Some weed, swimmable

Dennery Beach, at the spot known as La Pointe, lines the bay of the fishing village of Dennery on Saint Lucia's east coast. With its painted boats and waterfront houses, this is a working shoreline more than a lounging one, and one of the most telling vantage points on the whole Atlantic facade.

On a coast this exposed, it pays to know before you go. The page posts a 0 to 5 rating reset every morning, the east sector map and a concrete status: clear bay, rafts on approach or a landing already settled on the sand.

What to know about this beach

Dennery opens straight onto the Atlantic, facing due east, squarely in the path of the trade winds. That makes it Saint Lucia's most exposed configuration: ocean-crossing sargassum rafts reach this facade first, ahead of the island's south and long before the Caribbean coast. Together with Praslin and Micoud, Dennery forms the eastern front that absorbs arrivals head-on.

The shape of the bay then weighs on every episode: weed that slips inside finds an enclosed pocket where it readily lingers, and deposits can hold on until the sea claws them back. For visitors and for the village's fishermen alike, the morning rating sets the tone of the day, and it often previews what Praslin and Micoud, just to the south, will see within hours.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dennery Beach the most exposed beach in Saint Lucia?

It belongs to the most exposed front, yes. Facing due east with no screen, it takes the Atlantic flow directly, like Praslin and Micoud on the same facade. When an arrival hits the island, it almost always starts along this shoreline.

When is Dennery bay at its heaviest?

During the Caribbean arrival season, from spring through late summer, with sharp peaks. Off season, the bay goes through long quiet spells that the daily rating makes easy to spot.

Where should I go when Dennery is covered?

To the opposite coast. The western sector, from Marigot down to Sugar Beach, turns its back on the trade winds and usually stays usable when the east side saturates. The FanGass map compares both coasts at a glance.

Does today's rating apply to the whole east sector?

Ratings are set beach by beach, but Dennery, Praslin and Micoud often move together under the same flow. A gap between them usually points to a local current or a bay shape holding more weed.

Methodology & transparency — FanGass is a free service published by the Katchak agency and created by Morgan Haillus. Every morning, each beach’s 0-to-5 score is recomputed by cross-checking official bulletins (Météo-France, NOAA, University of South Florida), satellite imagery of the offshore rafts, and on-the-ground user reports.
