Sargassum at Miami Beach, aka Enterprise Beach (Oistins)
Clear
All good
A short walk from the fishing town of Oistins and its famous fish market, Miami Beach, officially Enterprise Beach, is where many Barbadians come for their end-of-day swim. No big resorts here: a sandy cove, some shade and a loyal local crowd.
FanGass logs sargassum conditions here day after day: a 0 to 5 rating posted by breakfast time, the cove's place on the sector map and the curve of recent days. You see at once whether the beach is clean, worth watching or in the middle of a stranding.

What to know about this beach
Miami Beach closes the southern beach chain at its eastern end, where the Barbadian shoreline prepares to swing round into Saint Philip and the exposed south-east, the island's first rampart against the incoming flow. A quirk inherited from the shape of the coast: like Carlisle Bay at the opposite end of the sector, this cove faces south-west rather than due south, a quarter turn that angles it slightly away from the stream of weed running along the façade.
That twist is no guarantee. Rafts rounding the island's south-eastern point spill straight onto the Oistins area, which is among the first served on this coast, and the narrow ribbon of sand covers over quickly once a patch settles. Hence the value of a daily check: caught between the nearby south-east front and its own angled exposure, Miami Beach can swing from one extreme to the other within days.
Frequently asked questions
Why two names, Miami Beach and Enterprise Beach?
Enterprise Beach is the official name, used on signs and maps; Miami Beach is the nickname locals adopted long ago. Both refer to the same cove at Oistins, tracked here under a single daily rating.
Does Miami Beach get weed before Dover or Worthing?
Usually, yes. Flows enter the south coast from the east, and the Oistins cove stands among the first on their route, ahead of Dover, Worthing, Accra and finally Carlisle Bay. Its south-west orientation does soften part of the deposits.
Is the Oistins fish market still worth it when the beach is loaded?
Absolutely: the town lives off fishing and the market comes alive in the evening, whatever the shoreline looks like. Just glance at the morning score to decide whether to swim here or a little further west.
When should I keep a close eye on this cove?
During the main arrival season, spring through late summer, and especially during regional peaks: the whole southern façade saturated in 2025. Off season, passages still happen but tend to be brief.
