Facing east with nothing offshore to shield it, Ballenas takes the swell head on. Waves often break harder here than at the top of the hotel zone: the seabed rises quickly and the break sits close in. That energy chops sargassum rafts apart, so deposits tend to spread along a great length of sand rather than pile at one spot.
