The beach faces northwest from the back of a deep bay with a narrow mouth, and that geometry does most of the work. Sargassum rafts travel west with the trade winds and the current, so they have to clear the headland and squeeze through the entrance before any of it reaches this sand. Shores that look straight out to the east take the first hit; Puerto Seco rarely does.
