Sargassum at Taylor Bay: the daily check

Today, October 30

Clear

Clean, hit it

Taylor Bay hides on the south-west side of Providenciales, a short hop from Sapodilla Bay: a small cove opening onto the Caicos Bank, where calm water draws families rather than crowds.

This page adds the one thing the postcard never shows: the day's situation. The sector's 0 to 5 rating comes out of each morning's satellite review and sits beside the map and the recent history, which makes choosing a beach a decision made before the road, not after.

What to know about this beach

The cove faces south-west over the Caicos Bank, the huge shallow platform that separates Providenciales' southern shore from the open Atlantic. Doubly removed from the east-to-south-east flow, by its bearing and by that underwater shelf, Taylor Bay ranks among the least exposed spots in the territory.

Next-door Sapodilla Bay shares the same regime with a due-west aspect, and the pair act as the island's natural fallback when Long Bay, over on the windward side, loads up. Some weed can still wander in once debris has drifted onto the bank, but it usually amounts to scattered strands rather than a carpet.

Frequently asked questions

Does sargassum often reach Taylor Bay?

Rarely in bulk. The cove turns away from the main stream and the Caicos Bank screens it from open water, so what shows up is mostly loose fragments steered around by local currents.

Taylor Bay or Sapodilla Bay: how to pick on the day?

They sit minutes apart and usually share a rating. Check the morning map: if a local deposit touches one cove, the other often works as an instant plan B without rethinking the whole day.

Does the sector rating really describe this little cove?

The rating covers the Providenciales sector, and Taylor Bay is one of its most sheltered corners. When the sector's score worsens, this cove is generally the last spot affected, though a quick look on arrival never hurts.

Methodology & transparency — FanGass is a free service published by the Katchak agency and created by Morgan Haillus. Every morning, each beach’s 0-to-5 score is recomputed by cross-checking official bulletins (Météo-France, NOAA, University of South Florida), satellite imagery of the offshore rafts, and on-the-ground user reports.
