What to know about this beach
Domes occupies a corner of the island. A few hundred metres north the shoreline faces the open Atlantic; at the beach itself the sand already looks west toward the Mona Passage. Sargassum driven by the easterly trades meets Puerto Rico far from here, on the eastern and southeastern coasts, so anything reaching Rincón has wrapped around the north of the island or drifted in on passage currents, in much smaller amounts.
That corner position matters in a second way. The shore takes north and northwest swell, the winter energy that built Rincón's surfing reputation, and a lively shorebreak keeps the water moving far more than the back of a bay would. The beach takes its name from the dome of the decommissioned experimental reactor beside the lighthouse.

Does Playa Domes get much sargassum?
Rarely in volume. The northwest corner sits well off the path of incoming rafts, which reach eastern Puerto Rico first. What does arrive here depends mostly on Mona Passage currents and on the direction of the local wind.

Indirectly, yes. Caribbean landings concentrate in spring and summer, while winter brings north swell to this stretch. Moving water along the shore makes it harder for rafts to settle in close to the beach.
