Playa Los Machos runs along the Ceiba shoreline, south of Puerto Rico's eastern tip, opposite the passage that separates the main island from Vieques. It is a long ribbon of sand aligned north to south, facing due east, near the terminal where the Vieques and Culebra ferries depart.

What to know about this beach
Facing due east makes Los Machos one of the more exposed sites in the area. Sargassum in the tropical Atlantic moves from east to west under the trade winds, and this beach presents its full front to that flow, with no headland in the way to bend the drift.
The Vieques passage adds a second factor. A narrowing channel between two islands speeds up the current and concentrates what it carries, so weed moving through the passage can end up pressed against whichever shore lies downwind that day. The strip is also long, more than seven hundred metres north to south, so deposits rarely spread evenly: one end can be loaded while the other stays workable, depending on the northerly or southerly component of the wind.
