Mahahual sits at the southern end of the Costa Maya, several hours down the road from Tulum, and its malecón runs the length of the village beachfront. This page gives the sargassum state for that seafront: the morning observation, a rating from 0 to 5 and the map of the Costa Maya area.
The point is simple. Before you head out, you know whether the sand in front of the malecón is clear, loaded, or somewhere between. What to know about this beach
Mahahual looks east onto open Caribbean water, which puts the village in line with the rafts the trade winds drive in from the middle of the basin, like the whole Quintana Roo seaboard. One feature matters a lot here: the barrier reef runs unusually close inshore, and the shallow band of water between reef and beach behaves like a calm pool.
That reef and lagoon pairing works both ways. The reef stops some of what drifts in, but channels and low sections let material through, and once inside, sargassum meets water with little energy to move it, so it tends to settle near the shoreline rather than wash back out. The malecón also concentrates most of the village's beach use, which makes it the stretch watched most closely, day after day.

The malecón covers the centre of the village, and the sand carries on north and south along quieter sections. Exposure is broadly similar from one stretch to another; what changes most is how busy they are.
