The bay opens eastward and takes the same sargassum trains as the rest of the Riviera Maya mainland: trade winds carry the rafts in with no island standing between the open Atlantic and this shore. What sets Puerto Aventuras apart is the shape of the shoreline. Fátima is a short cove, closed off by rocky points and by the marina breakwaters.
