La Parguera has no clean shoreline edge. Instead it has a chain of mangrove cays, channels and coral shallows stretching several kilometres offshore. That structure acts as a screen: sargassum rafts moving with the coastal current meet the islets and reefs before they reach Playa Rosada, which faces south and already sits on the sheltered Caribbean side of the island.
